Best Answer for In the mid-2000s, as a result of the Afghan people's anger toward the United States

the Taliban began to regain control over some areas.

Explanation:

During the 2000s,  the Afghan people were against the United States of America, because of their war against terrorism, and they began to become more and more radicalized. It helped the Taliban to take back some of the lands they had previously lost and get more help from those people who wanted freedom from the foreign rule. The more strongly the U.S tries to curb them, resulting in more hostilities and more people joined the side of the Taliban.
